Patients undergoing laparoscopic<br />cholecystectomy must be the focus when planning a hospital discharge process by<br />giving them effective practical discharge guidelines that will increase their confidence<br />in managing their care at home, so that</span><span class="fontstyle4">, </span><span class="fontstyle0">Aim</span><span class="fontstyle1">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">of the present study was to develop<br />discharge guidelines for patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy</span><span class="fontstyle4">. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Design</span><span class="fontstyle4">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">A<br />descriptive exploratory design was utilized in this study. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Setting</span><span class="fontstyle4">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">The study was<br />conducted at the surgical departments and out patients` clinics of<br />GastroenterologyCenter at MansouraUniversity</span><span class="fontstyle4">. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Sample</span><span class="fontstyle4">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">A purposive sample of 200<br />adult patients, from both genders underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy from the<br />above mentioned setting within 6 months. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Tools for data collection</span><span class="fontstyle4">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">1) A structure<br />interviewing questionnaire sheet to assess patients` knowledge. 2) An observational<br />checklist to assess patients' practices at pre / postoperative period.3) Health condition<br />assessment sheet to assess patients` health condition on 1</span><span class="fontstyle3" style="font-size: 8pt;">st </span><span class="fontstyle3">follow up visit at out<br />Patient's clinic</span><span class="fontstyle4">. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Results: </span><span class="fontstyle3">The mean age of the studied patients was 43.25 ± 11.01. More<br />than half (62.0%) of studied patients had unsatisfactory level of knowledge as regards<br />laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery as (pre/post-operative care and discharge<br />instructions). Most (90.5%) of them had unsatisfactory level of practices as(pre/postoperative practices) added to poor health condition assessment for more than half<br />(60.0%) of the studied sample </span><span class="fontstyle0">Conclusion: </span><span class="fontstyle3">There was a statistical significant relation<br />between patients` total knowledge scores and the total practices scores as regards their<br />socio-demographic characteristics. Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Port Said UniversityJournal Article20160529<span class="fontstyle0">Background</span><span class="fontstyle1">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">Nutrition is a major component and determinant of the quality of life, so<br />intake adequate and balanced nutrition is foundations for good health in adulthood. </span><span class="fontstyle0">The<br />aim of this study: </span><span class="fontstyle3">was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices toward optimal<br />nutrition among the governmental preparatory school students in Dekerness city at<br />Dakahlia governorate. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Research design</span><span class="fontstyle1">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">a descriptive design ( cross-section ) was used.<br /></span><span class="fontstyle0">Sample: </span><span class="fontstyle3">this study included 303 students who were selected by a simple random<br />sampling method. </span><span class="fontstyle0">The used tool </span><span class="fontstyle3">was a self-reported questionnaire which developed by<br />the researcher and includes socio-demographic characters of the students, assessment of<br />their knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding optimal nutrition. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Results: </span><span class="fontstyle3">the total<br />number of males was (50.2%) while the total number of females was (49.8%). The<br />satisfactory level of all students' knowledge was (61.4%), the satisfactory level of all<br />students' attitudes was (75.6%) and the satisfactory level of all students' reported<br />practices regarding optimal nutrition was (72.6%). </span><span class="fontstyle0">Conclusion: </span><span class="fontstyle3">the majority of all<br />students had a satisfactory level of knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding optimal<br />nutrition. Although there was no statistically significant difference between the<br />knowledge score and attitude score, but there was a statistically significant difference<br />between knowledge score and practice score. CKD has significant health and a lifestyle implication for those<br />affected, including increased risk of cardiovascular disease, malnutrition and is a<br />public health burden particularly in those patients who progress to end stage renal<br />failure or ESRD. </span><span class="fontstyle0">This study aimed to</span><span class="fontstyle3">: assess nutritional needs for patients undergoing<br />hemodialysis. </span><span class="fontstyle0">A descriptive design </span><span class="fontstyle3">was applied in the current study. </span><span class="fontstyle0">The study was<br />conducted at </span><span class="fontstyle3">hemodialysis department at El -Hussein university hospital in Cairo and<br />at Port Said hospitals disturbed as following, Port Said General Hospital and PortFouad General Hospital</span><span class="fontstyle1">. </span><span class="fontstyle0">A convenience sample of </span><span class="fontstyle3">100 patients undergoing<br />hemodialysis was included. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Three tools </span><span class="fontstyle3">were used for data collection; Structured<br />interview questionnaire, Dietary assessment questionnaire and Nutritional needs<br />assessment questionnaire. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Results of the study revealed that</span><span class="fontstyle3">, more than three quarters<br />of studied HD patients (80%) have abnormalities of nutritional parameters and there<br />are a statically significances between sociodemographic variables, some of nutritional<br />needs and dietary habits whereas (p< 0.05). </span><span class="fontstyle0">Conclusion: </span><span class="fontstyle3">abnormalities of nutritional<br />parameters are over prevalent than expected by analysis of dietary food intake. </span><span class="fontstyle0">The<br />current study recommended that, </span><span class="fontstyle3">dietetic counseling is very important in HD patients,<br />as well as a reevaluation of the type of dietary protein and energy requirements.</span>https://pssjn.journals.ekb.eg/article_32506_a512f84afc55238759293d7de50f02d7.pdfPort Said University; Faculty of NursingPort Said Scientific Journal of Nursing2356-86583220161201Emotional Intelligence and Leadership Styles of Head Nurses at Governmental Hospitals in Port-Said801013250810.21608/pssjn.2016.32508ENAbeerWassif ShenoudaB.Sc Nursing Suez Canal UniversitySamiaMohammed AdamProfessor of Nursing Administration Faculty of Nursing Ain Shams UniversityFathyaAbd ELRazek AfifyLecturer of Nursing Administration Faculty of
Nursing Port Said UniversityJournal Article20160310<span class="fontstyle0">Background: </span><span class="fontstyle2">E</span><span class="fontstyle3">motional intelligence (EI) has become a global phenomenon due to its<br />far reaching implications for individuals, groups, society as a whole and it is critical to<br />becoming a successful leader. In addition to effective leadership plays an important<br />role in the growth and better performance of the organization. </span><span class="fontstyle0">The aim: </span><span class="fontstyle3">of the present<br />study was to assess the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership<br />styles of the head nurses at governmental hospitals in Port-Said. </span><span class="fontstyle0">The research design</span><span class="fontstyle4">:<br /></span><span class="fontstyle3">was a correlational descriptive design. The subjects of this study consisted of two<br />groups; Head nurses group (31) and staff nurses group (216), two </span><span class="fontstyle2">tools </span><span class="fontstyle3">were used for<br />data collection as the followings: emotional intelligence questionnaire which used to<br />assess emotional intelligence level of head nurses and leadership styles questionnaire<br />which used to assess leadership styles used by head nurses from staff nurse‘s point of<br />view. </span><span class="fontstyle0">The results: </span><span class="fontstyle3">revealed that self-awareness of head nurses scores reported the<br />highest mean percentage compared to self-regulation in personal competence whereas<br />social skills scored the highest mean percentage in social competence and all<br />competence of emotional intelligence and transformational leadership scored the<br />highest mean percentage than transactional leadership in advanced styles and all<br />styles from staff nurse‘s point of view. The study </span><span class="fontstyle0">concluded</span><span class="fontstyle4">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">that there was no<br />statistically significant correlation between emotional intelligence and leadership<br />styles. However, two skills of transformational styles inspirational motivation and<br />individual consideration had a negative statistically significant correlation with social<br />competence of EI, in addition to, personal competence and total EI was founded for<br />inspirational motivation only. It is at a<br />significant risk of depression for mothers because of the frequent stressful diagnostic<br />tests, treatments and side effects of treatments.</span><span class="fontstyle0">Aim</span><span class="fontstyle3">: Assessof knowledge and reported<br />practice of mothers having children with cancer and undergoing<br />chemotherapy.</span><span class="fontstyle0">Design: </span><span class="fontstyle3">Adescriptive research design was used in the study. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Data<br />collection</span><span class="fontstyle4">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">a purposive sample of </span><span class="fontstyle2">50 </span><span class="fontstyle3">mothers and their children with cancer at<br />inpatient and out- patient departments at Oncology Institute in Mansoura City</span><span class="fontstyle2">. Faculty of Nursing - Port said UniversityJournal Article20160121<span class="fontstyle0">Background</span><span class="fontstyle1">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">To evaluate effect of health guidelines about cervical cancer for women<br />on their screening behavior. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Subject and Methods</span><span class="fontstyle4">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">It was carried out in the oncology<br />clinics at health insurance hospital at Suez city using a quasi-experimental (pre &<br />posttest) design, Purposive non-probability sampling technique. The study subjects<br />were consisted of 102 women attending for follow up in the oncology clinics. An<br />interview schedule was designed and utilized to collect the necessary data. A selfadministered questionnaire was used. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Results</span><span class="fontstyle1">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">showed very poor knowledge </span><span class="fontstyle4">(2.0%)<br /></span><span class="fontstyle3">before the implementation of the health guidelines program. This statistically<br />improved after the program to reach </span><span class="fontstyle4">98.0%</span><span class="fontstyle3">.s. Meanwhile the study revealed that<br /></span><span class="fontstyle4">23.5% </span><span class="fontstyle3">accepted the screening for cervical cancer, while the rest had many health<br />seeking barriers. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Conclusion</span><span class="fontstyle1">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">Health guidelines was effective in improving the<br />knowledge and behavior of women regarding cervical cancer screening and<br />vaccination. UniversityJournal Article20160610<span class="fontstyle0">Background: </span><span class="fontstyle2">C</span><span class="fontstyle3">olostomy is a surgical procedure which may be created due to cancer,<br />inflammatory bowel diseases, bowel ischemia, diverticulitis and trauma</span><span class="fontstyle4">. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Aim: </span><span class="fontstyle3">this<br />study aimed to assess the health needs and self-efficacy for patients with colostomy.<br /></span><span class="fontstyle0">Methods: </span><span class="fontstyle3">A descriptive explorative design was utilized for the conduction of this<br />study , which done in the Surgical Outpatients` Clinics at EL-Mabra Hospital and EL<br />Tadamon Hospital which are affiliated to Health Insurance Organizations at Port Said<br />City. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Subjects & method</span><span class="fontstyle2">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">A purposive sample of (50) adult patients from both sexes<br />with colostomy and taken from the above mentioned settings. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Tool 1:</span><span class="fontstyle3">A structured<br />interview questionnaire sheet which consisted of a) socio demographic data sheet<br />and b) Health needs assessment sheet for the studied patients to assess (physical,<br />psychological, social, spiritual and educational needs) .</span><span class="fontstyle0">Tool II: </span><span class="fontstyle3">Patients` medical<br />record</span><span class="fontstyle4">: </span><span class="fontstyle3">It was developed to assess past and present medical history as (cause of<br />colostomy, type, current treatment and time since operation) and </span><span class="fontstyle0">Tool III: </span><span class="fontstyle3">Stoma<br />Care Self - Efficacy Scale. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Results: </span><span class="fontstyle3">There were statistically significant relations<br />between patients‘ age groups, gender, job and educational level as regards their health<br />needs and self-efficacy. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Conclusion: </span><span class="fontstyle3">It was concluded that, the studied patients had<br />health needs and low level of self-efficacy. Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Suez Canal University.Journal Article20160614<span class="fontstyle0">Background</span><span class="fontstyle1">: Blood transfusion is an essential component of modern health care that<br />saves millions of lives each year, and it will continue to be so for many years to come</span><span class="fontstyle3">.<br /></span><span class="fontstyle0">Aim </span><span class="fontstyle3">: </span><span class="fontstyle1">the current study aimed to assess nurses‘ performance regarding nursing care of<br />patients undergoing blood transfusion. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Subjects and Methods : </span><span class="fontstyle1">A descriptive research<br />design was utilized in this study. The study was carried out at three hospitals affiliated to<br />the Ministry of Health (Port-Said General Hospital, Port -Fouad General Hospital, and ElZohoer Centeral Hospital). The study sample composed of 134 nurses. The data were<br />collected using three tools (a structured interview sheet for knowledge, nurses' attitude<br />questionnaire and an observational checklist for practice. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Results: </span><span class="fontstyle1">The results of the<br />present study revealed that there were highly statistically significant relations between the<br />studied nurses' total knowledge mean scores and total practice mean scores with their<br />educational level with </span><span class="fontstyle3">p ≤ </span><span class="fontstyle1">0.001. In addition ,there was a highly positive statistically<br />significant correlation between the studied nurses' total knowledge mean scores and their<br />total practice mean scores with </span><span class="fontstyle3">p ≤ </span><span class="fontstyle1">0.00 .</span><span class="fontstyle0">Conclusion </span><span class="fontstyle3">: </span><span class="fontstyle1">Based on the results of the<br />present study, it can be concluded that, the majority of the studied nurses have<br />unsatisfactory level of knowledge and less than three-quarters of them have unsatisfactory<br />level of practice with more than the half of them have positive attitudes regarding nursing<br />care of patients undergoing blood transfusion. Administration, Faculty of Nursing, Suez Canal UniversityJournal Article20160506<span class="fontstyle0">Background: </span><span class="fontstyle2">Health professional requires communication skills to establish and<br />maintain effective helping relationships with patients and with each others. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Aim: </span><span class="fontstyle2">The<br />current study aimed to assess communication skills among nurse interns' students of<br />Teaching Institute of Nursing during health teaching at Suez Canal University<br />Hospitals. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Subjects & Methods: </span><span class="fontstyle2">A descriptive design was utilized to meet the aim of<br />the research. The study conducted in different departments and units at Suez Canal<br />University Hospitals. All nurse interns' students (84 students) included in this study.<br />They entered the internship program after they pass the fifth-year examination in<br />Technical Institute of Nursing (five-year system). The data collected by using an<br />observational checklist. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Results: </span><span class="fontstyle2">Among 84 nurse interns' students , the majority of<br />them were female, single , less than 20 years old and live in urban areas ( 56.0%,<br />83.3%, 97.6% and 60.7%) respectively and two-thirds of respondents (60.7%) had<br />unsatisfactory results for the communication skills while (39.3%) of them just got<br />satisfactory results, in addition to this, that most of the students did not satisfactory<br />results on self-preparation and skills of verbal communication during the health<br />education process. </span><span class="fontstyle0">conclusions : </span><span class="fontstyle2">the majority of the nurse interns' students had<br />inadequate total preparation, verbal and overall communication skills. But, most of<br />them have satisfactory non- verbal communication skills during health teaching with a<br />statistical significant correlation between some of the communication skills among<br />nurse interns' students and their gender and residence</span><span class="fontstyle3">. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Recommendations: </span><span class="fontstyle2">Preparing<br />students to interact and create constructive communicative relationships with patients<br />is essential to nursing practice. Breast cancer screening plays an important role in early detection and<br />decreasing mortality rate. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Aim</span><span class="fontstyle3">: </span><span class="fontstyle2">The aim of this study was to evaluate effect of nursing<br />intervention on women knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding breast cancer<br />screening in health care centers in Port Said city. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Methods: </span><span class="fontstyle2">A Convenience sample of<br />210 women who attended family planning clinics. This study was carried out in two<br />primary health care centers. Data were collected through using three tools, first,<br />structured interviewing questionnaire sheet, second health belief model scale; third tool<br />was observational checklist for breast self-examination practice. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Results: </span><span class="fontstyle2">revealed that,<br />there is statically significant improvement of women knowledge, attitudes and practice<br />regarding breast cancer and its screening after the intervention, also there is statistically<br />significant positive correlation between women's knowledge, attitude, practice of breast<br />self-examination and education. </span><span class="fontstyle0">Conclusion:</span><span class="fontstyle3">. </span><span class="fontstyle2">There was significant remarkable<br />improvement in women knowledge, BSE practice and attitudes towards breast cancer<br />and its screening after implementation of the educational program </span><span class="fontstyle0">Recommendations</span><span class="fontstyle4">:<br /></span><span class="fontstyle2">The study recommended that, breast cancer screening should be integrated in<br />preventive health programs in primary health centers, mammography and ultrasound<br />should be accessible and acceptable for attendance of primary health care services.</span>https://pssjn.journals.ekb.eg/article_32529_c02b9ead31f78592e87dc0de9850b601.pdf
